The new Chevrolet El Camino
Chevrolet is considering the flat pick-up new impetus. The rumor is not completely out of the blue.
Last week it was reported that the Americans are busy with a new Chevrolet SS. That car would be a fast, rear-wheel drive sedan will be based on the Commodore of the Australian GM sister brand Holden.
Now there happens to be one of those Commodore versions with the name Ute, which is a two-seat pickup which broadly follows the same concept as - yes - the old Chevrolet El Camino from the 60s and 70s.
Passenger
The original El Camino was unlike most other pickups based on a normal car, and had no SUV character. Chevrolet provided the car extremely powerful engines with up to 375 hp.
The current Holden Ute sends the strongest performance 368 hp from a 6.0-liter V8 to the rear wheels.
A simple arithmetic shows that if an Chevrolet SS sedan can come, a new El Camino does not have to be far away. The American Left Lane News did that sum.
Holden has confirmed nor denied the report, but it is clear that if the plans go ahead, the new El Camino will be based on the new model of the Ute, and there is none for 2014.
