How to Change Brake Pads on an Audi

1. Break the lug nuts loose on the Audi by turning them 1/4 turn on all of the wheels.
2. Raise the Audi onto jack stands. To do this, engage the emergency brake and jack up the front of the vehicle with the floor jack and make sure that you are jacking up on the front jack point located near the radiator (it is an extension of the frame of the Audi). Place the jack stands underneath the front pinch welds on the side of the Audi, and lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. Repeat this process for the rear of the vehicle, using the rear jack point located near the trunk as well as the rear pinch welds.
3. Continue removing the lug nuts and remove the wheel.
4. Unbolt the caliper mounting bolts and pull the caliper off the brake rotor.
5. Secure the brake rotor to the coil springs above the brake assembly with zip ties.
6. Remove the brake pads. You may need to tap them out of place with a rubber mallet.
7. Place the face of one of the brake pads over the caliper piston. Then, place the c-clamp over the caliper assembly and force the brake pad against the caliper piston. This will in turn push the caliper piston back into the caliper, making room for the new (thicker) brake pads.
8. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper and reassemble the caliper and brake assembly. Installation of pads is the reverse of removal.
9. Mount the wheels back over the hub assembly and tighten the lug nuts. Then, lower the Audi and torque the lug nuts to 100 foot-lbs using the torque wrench.

How to Repair an Automotive Instrument Cluster

1. Open the hood. Detach the negative battery terminal with a wrench.
2. Locate the cowl trim around the edges of the instrument cluster. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the cowl. Lift the cowl away from the instrument cluster.
3. Remove the three mounting screws attached to the cluster. Unhook the electrical connectors from the back of the cluster. Slide the cluster out of the dash and place it on a flat work surface.
4. Unscrew the broken bulbs in a counterclockwise direction. Discard the broken bulbs. Install the new bulbs by turning them in the opposite direction.
5. To reinstall the cluster or install a new one, simply follow the removal steps in reverse. Reattach the negative battery cable and turn on the engine to test the indicator bulbs in the instrument cluster.

How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor for a 2002 Audi A4

1. Jack up on the front of your Audi A4 under the front jack point behind the radiator, using the floor jack.
2. Place jack stands under the front pinch welds of the vehicle and lower the Audi onto the stands.
3. Climb under the vehicle and disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor.
4. Unbolt the oxygen sensor from the exhaust using an O2 sensor socket and socket wrench.
5. Remove the sensor and thread the new sensor into the exhaust. Tighten the sensor using a socket wrench and O2 sensor socket.
6. Reconnect the electrical leads to the sensor.
7. Lower the A4 to the ground using the floor jack.

How to Lower an Audi TT

Replacing Front Springs
1. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it so that both front wheels are off the ground. Remove the wheels.
2. Remove the ABS (antilock brake) wire grommet and cable from the strut and remove the lower pinch bolt that connects the strut to the steering knuckle.
3. Compress the spring with the spring compressor to relieve pressure from the suspension. Separate the strut from the steering knuckle (which might take some effort), lowering the lower control arm as needed. Remove the axle from the steering knuckle and lay it on the lower suspension.
4. Remove the windshield wipers and cover (later model Audi TTs) to access the upper strut bolt. Remove the single strut bolt while an assistant supports it from the bottom. Allowing the strut to simply fall without support may cause the spring clamp to jar loose, sending the highly pressurized spring flying across your garage.
5. Slowly remove the spring clamp from the strut assembly and lift the spring free of the strut. Replace the stock spring with one of the front springs from your kit; Audi TT springs arent reversible, so make sure you put it on right-way-up.
6. Reverse the removal procedure to reinstall your strut and its new, lower spring. Repeat the entire removal/replacement procedure on the other side.
Rear Spring Installation
7. Raise the rear of the vehicle (allowing the suspension to fully droop), support it with jack stands and remove both tires. Remove the antilock brake sensor cable from the inner fenders (if so equipped). If replacing the shock absorber at this time, youll need to partially remove the inner fender lining to access its top bolt.
8. Put the spring compressor on the coil spring to relieve pressure from the suspension. Remove the shock-absorber-to-control arm bolt. Remove the compressed spring, then carefully remove the compressor from your spring.
9. Apply the compressor to your new spring and install it in place of the old. Depending on the amount of suspension drop, you may or may not need to use the spring compressor to install the new springs. If this is the case, simply slip the spring into place and use your floor jack to raise the rear suspension far enough to reinstall the shock absorber bolt. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Take your now-lower Audi to a qualified shop and have the suspension realigned.

How to Install a Cone Filter in an Audi A4

1. Open your hood and locate the air filter box and intake tube. Turbo models will feature a heftier intake that attaches to the turbocharger, while naturally aspirated engines have intake that attaches to only the throttle body.
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring, hoses and mass air flow meter that attach to the factory intake tube and set aside for use with the new intake system. Unfasten the hardware that holds the intake tube in place and remove slowly, careful not to spill any debris. If necessary, use a flat-head screwdriver to assist you in removing the intake tube.
3. Unscrew the bolts that hold the stock air filter box into place. Remove this factory intake box completely and dispose of it properly, as you will not need the filter or its housing box for the new install.
4. Check the new intake tube and count the number of holes that are drilled into the side. If there are more holes than hoses that attached to the old setup, plug the unnecessary holes with the grommets that came with your intake kit.
5. Attach the new intake tube to your A4 directly as the old one was removed. This part will mimic the old intake tube in design and functionality, while the filter itself will be positioned differently and provide better performance. Secure the intake tube with the silicone coupling that came with your cold air intake kit. There should also be a clamp ring that came with your kit to hold the silicone coupling and intake tube into place.
6. Attach the downward piece of the intake tubing system to the newly installed tube from Step 5. By this point, the intake tube should extend to the front of the engine bay and underneath the front of the car. The cold air will come in through the bottom of the front side of the vehicle, increasing horespower and fuel efficiency in your Audi A4.
7. Spray down the new air filter with the necessary lubricant before installing. Position the cone air filter that was provided in the cold air intake kit onto the downward intake tube. Tighten the clamp fitted around the cone filter to secure into place. Reconnect any remaining hoses and wiring that were removed at this time.

How do I Change an Audi A4 Coolant Tank

1. Open the engine hood of the Audi A4 by pulling the hood-release lever located underneath the steering panel of the car on the driver side. Push the hood up all the way until it locks into place.
2. Locate the coolant tank on the driver-side of the vehicle, just in front of the wheel well. The tank is clear and has a blue screw top. Place a drain pan below the coolant tank underneath the car. This pan will catch the coolant that falls from the tank when its being removed.
3. Remove the three bolts surrounding the coolant tank with the 10 mm socket wrench.
4. Detach the three hoses that run from the radiator to the coolant tank with a clamp removal tool. Wait for the coolant to drain completely into the pan below.
5. Lift the tank out of the engine cavity. Replace it with the new tank. Reattach the hoses with the clamps and fasten the tank with the bolts. Remove the cap and pour in coolant until it reaches the MAX line. Close the hood.

How to Fix Wiper Blades Stuck in an Upright Position for an Audi

1. Pull the wiper arm assembly away from the windshield until the wiper arm hinge locks into a position perpendicular to the windshield.
2. Remove the retaining nut that holds the wiper arm assembly to the base of the windshield.
3. Pull the wiper arm assembly off the cowl.
4. Check the pivot assembly for any debris and clear away anything that might be lodged in the cowl with your fingers. The profile of many Audis is such that debris are easily lodged down behind the cowl or behind the pivot arm. This will cause the arm to not move as it should.
5. Turn on the wiper motor without the wiper arm assembly attached and cycle the wiper arm motor one time. Verify that the pivot assembly moves freely.
6. Put the wiper arm assembly back onto the pivot arm assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal.

How to Install an Emblem on a Mercedes Hood

1. Open up the hood of your Mercedes. Look underneath the hood and locate the access panel for the emblem, which is positioned towards the front of the hood, by the grille. Locate the bar-shaped clips that hold the emblem in place, as well as the bar-shaped hole in the hood.
2. Insert the needle-nose pliers into the hole and use them to hold the bar-shaped clips together tightly, then twist the clip 90 degrees clockwise, until the bar-shaped clips fit through the access hole in the hood. Pull the remnants of the old emblem out of the hood, using your other hand.
3. Hold the replacement emblem on the hood, so that the clips are aligned with the slot in the hood. Push the clips in place until they go through the hole. Hold the hood emblem with one hand and turn the clips 90 degrees, until the access hole and clips form a "+" sign. Look at the top of the hood and verify that the emblem is straight. Close the hood of the car.
